Another Safety Recall

Postby Scrapper » Thu Nov 25, 2010 11:06 pm

I've just received a safety recall notice for my manual iQ2 (built mid-summer 2009).

Apparently there's a fault in the sensors on the electric power steering. If you drive along the rumble strip on a motorway or something similar the sensors return a fault code, a warning light appears on the display panel and you're left without any power steeering assistance.

Does anybody know how many cars are affected or how long the fix takes? All my letter said was that my dealer would eventually be in touch and don't panic in the mean time!

At motorway speeds you are unlikely to notice a lack of power steering anyway.

I got the letter too.

Just drop it in when you get the next letter inviting you in, or at the next service. :)

I'm not too worried about this - I don't make a habit of driving down the rumble strip! But I think I read the letter rather differently to you. I agree that power steering doesn't do much whilst you're driving down the motorway, but I got the impression that when the fault was flagged up the power steering was turned off and stayed off until reset by a dealer.
