Hello Everyone, my names Adam and im from east yorkshire

i dont have an IQ a the moment, but am seriously looking into getting one, maybe within the next couple of months, in time for the august/summertime
anyway

i have looked in an iq sat in one, havent driven one yet, thats next on the agenda im just wondering if anyone could help me with a few questions i have

firstly the keyless entry, how does it work, i know it may sound stupid but ive never used keyless entry before except for obviously just central locking on the key fob , what im basically saying is, how do i unlock the car, does it automatically unlock when i go near the car, as long as i have the key with me? also how do i lock it when i leave the car, and then how would i check that its locked?
if i went back upto it would i have to leave the key somewhere in the house or with someone else so i could go and check it , reason being maybe if i had the key on me it would just be unlocked whenever i was near it? or do you have to press something on the car? as i say im a complete newbie to keyless entry so i probably sound like a fool , and i do indeed have no idea what im talking about, also can the keyless entry be disabled or would there be no need, if its all safe and lock proplerly, also the keyless start how does that work is that along the same lines, as in no one can start it unless they have the key on them. i hope someone can understand what im talking about and can help? any comments back will be greatly appreciated

i am really looking forward to hopefully getting one to replace my old corsa, its the car i passed my driving test in and want something out of the ordinary not run off the mill, good looking, comfortable and has all the stuff on it, many thanks to you all in anticipation of you getting back to me

"Keyless" is well implemented on the iQ:

The vehicle unlocks when anyone touches the back of a door handle or presses a button on the bootlid, but only if the electronic key fob is within a few feet.

The vehicle locks if you touch the front of the door handle or press a button on the bootlid with the key fob in range. Do this twice and the vehicle double locks (i.e. the doors cannot be opened without the key even if you smash a window to gain access to the interior).

The key fob includes "plip" buttons to lock and unlock the vehicle remotely in the normal way, but I never use them because the key never leaves my pocket!

Locking/unlocking is confirmed by flashing indicators in the normal way, but if you're worried you can pull on the door handle to check it really has locked for a few seconds after locking the car (i.e. the unlock function is supressed for a few seconds).

If you press the start button with the key fob anywhere in car and the clutch fully depressed, the ignition is turned on, the steering column is unlocked and the engine is started. You don't have to hold the start button down - it cranks long enough to start the engine (it only gives up after 30 seconds if something is wrong).

The vehicle cycles through Off, Accessories, Ignition On if you press the start button with the key fob anywhere in car and the clutch up.

The engine stops if you press the start button with the engine running and the vehicle stationary. If the vehicle is moving, the engine will continue to run unless you hold the button down for several seconds. The steering column only relocks when you open the door.

If the key fob stops working for any reason, the key fob has a built-in metal key which will unlock the vehicle and the vehicle can still be started in the normal way if the "dead" key is held next to the start button. Similarly, If the car battery goes flat you can use the metal key to unlock the vehicle in order to jump start it or recharge the battery.

If you drop off a passenger who takes the key with them, you can continue to drive the vehicle until you stop the engine (the engine will restart after a stall, but once you turn it off for a few seconds you can't restart the vehicle).

In my opinion they've covered just about everything. My only concern is the time taken to shut off the engine in an emergency with the vehicle in motion (jammed throttle pedal?).

My advice: Definitely go for a test drive - it's a great car. And consider paying the extra for the iQ2 or iQ3 - the keyless facility is well worth having, but even better is the much improved electronic climate control, automatic headlamps and wipers and those shiny wheels which you don't get on the iQ1.
