Made the plunge

Postby gerry1 » Sat May 02, 2009 10:01 am

Had no intention of changing my 11 years old Honda Civic which has proved very reliable, However, I saw an IQ in white parked nearby and I was smitten. I was backwards and forward to Toyota and when the UK governement offered a £2000 bonus if I scrapped my car, I committed to one. The one problem is that I have to wait until the 18th May.
I only have one concern. The interior facia panels appear to mark easily. The saleman reassured me otherwise but I will be really annoyed if his assurance proves to be wrong. When asked by friends why I liked the car as opposed to other cheaper cars, I could only reply with " because it's me". Twenty years ago I was running around in a Citroen 2CV which was me at the time. Today I am more eco aware and the IQ2 ticks all the boxes. I cannot wait!

iq has great eco credentials so I think it will keep you happy too. Did your dealer let you place your order already and take advantage of the £2k or do you have to wait until May?

Hi Jason... I paid a £500 deposit yesterday and have been assured that I will be able to collect the car on May 18th. I decided not to buy the add on packs as they are quite expensive e.g Urban Pack and SatNav. Had I ordered these packs a delivery of 7-10 weeks was forecast. I don't need rear parking sensors on a car the size of the IQ. The car is ideal for a city but I live by the sea in Poole, Dorset and will use the car only locally and occasionally to London and Devon. I hope it doesn't feel like a spin dryer on long runs.
On the question of price very few dealers are giving additional incentives. However, I have managed to negotiate a free glove satchel which clips on the dashboard and Price Guarantee Insurance, which is useful should the car be written off within the next 3 years. This insurance normally costs £399.00 and was offered free of charge. At least I will be able to buy a new IQ should my car be written off. Best to contact Inchcape dealers who have their own insurance. I dealt with Inchcape Basingstoke. Very helpful sales staff who don't have that Arthur Daley way about them.

Well got news for you they come free at the moment any way as advised by my dealer thats why I have one too. As for the GAP insurance I paid £250 for RTI insurance for 3 years paying for it monthly no extra charge. Also got a tank of fuel

Have an IQ2 on order but forgot to ask servicing schedules etc. Does anybody know at what mileage you need the first service and thereafter? Does Toyota have a roof rack planned as an extra to carry that bit extra? I have not chosen the Urban pack. Any ideas where to buy the best car mats especially the one that goes across the back seats when down? Do you think that Toyota would include the basic mats??What grade of petrol will the IQ use? Must come across as a bit 'blond' but just curious to know.
